I still have times when sadness compounds.
I still think “Why must I live like this?”
And, “Where do I find joy?”
However, I am generally happy.
My happiness does not come from
making an excellent physical recovery.
I do not look to running to find joy.
Running is years,
if not lifetimes, away.
Rather, happiness comes
from a positive mindset.
Gone are the days when
I desperately chase a dream
dependent on my brain’s tenuous
connection to my body.
I now depend on my
brain’s available connection to my soul.
Where my brain-body
connection finds little joy,
an accessible brain-soul
connection compensates.
My body lives in
a world limited by disability.
However, my soul lives in
a world without limits.
